About Scenic Lake Elmo MN
Located in Washington County on the eastern border of Minnesota, Lake Elmo MN is a small farming and bedroom community between Minneapolis-Saint Paul MN and the Mississippi River. The town began with just one farm in 1852, and has grown to a 2010 population just over 8,000 according to the US Census Bureau, and it’s also set to grow due to new zoning laws that will attract more residents. The town is located only 20 miles east of the greater Twin Cities metropolitan area and nearby beautiful Lake Elmo, named after the 1866 novel St. Elmo by Augusta Jane Evans.
The Lake Elmo Park Reserve is a large park nearby the town that contains the lake, lots of campgrounds, hiking trails, as well as lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation like boating and swimming, but also cross country skiing in the winter. As the State of 1000 Lakes, there are a ton of other natural areas to enjoy nearby, including Sunfish Lake, Lake De Montreville, and the St. Croix Savanna Scientific and Natural Area. There are also fun places to see and eat, such as Vali-Hi Drive In Theatre and the Royal Golf Club. The Giggle Club amusement park is another fun place to visit.
